LaM
IncontournablesOpened in 1983 thanks to an exceptional donation from Geneviève and Jean Masurel, the LaM – Lille Métropole Museum of Modern Art, Contemporary Art and Art Brut – is now one of the few museums in Europe to bring together these three artistic fields. With more than 9,000 works, including masterpieces by Modigliani, Picasso, Léger and Miró, it was enriched in 1999 with a significant collection of outsider art assembled by the L'Aracine association. Through its collections, exhibitions and sculpture garden, the LaM offers a unique overview of 20th and 21st century art and affirms its mission: to transmit, arouse curiosity and encourage encounters between artists and all audiences.
REOPENING EXHIBITION:
How about discovering Kandinsky in a different light?
The LaM invites you to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Wassily Kandinsky, one of the great pioneers of abstraction. Spirituality, science, popular traditions, travel... Kandinsky face aux images reveals the many sources of inspiration that fuelled his imagination. In partnership with the Centre Pompidou, nearly 400 works, photographs and archives take you on a visual and sensory journey to the heart of creation. A unique experience to (re)discover Kandinsky in a new light, through the images that shaped his vision of the world.
The exhibition Kandinsky face aux images (Kandinsky and Images) is co-organised by the LaM and the Centre Pompidou. It benefits from exceptional support from the Métropole Européenne de Lille and sponsorship from the Crédit Mutuel Nord Europe Foundation, the exhibition's main sponsor.

LaM
Inaugurated in 1983 to house the exceptional donation from Geneviève and Jean Masurel, members of a prominent industrial family from northern France, the LaM has established itself as a leading institution in the European museum landscape. Thanks to this generous gesture, heir to the Roger Dutilleul collection, the museum preserves and displays a major collection of modern art, including works by Modigliani, Picasso, Léger, and Miro. Open to contemporary art since its creation, the LaM was enriched in 1999 by an exceptional donation of more than 3,500 works of art brut collected by the association L'Aracine, founded by Madeleine Lommel, Claire Teller, and Michel Nedjar. It is thus the first French museum to bring together three complementary collections within a single institution: modern art, contemporary art, and art brut. With more than 8,500 works, remarkable architecture, and a sculpture garden accessible to all, the LaM offers a unique experience in Europe, providing a broad overview of 20th- and 21st-century art. Its mission is to enrich knowledge of the works, stimulate curiosity, and encourage encounters between artists and the public in a spirit of openness, dialogue, and sharing. Closed at the end of 2024 for a major renovation phase, the LaM is nevertheless continuing its cultural mission by reaching out to the public, offering a program of events outside its walls, in collaboration with its local and regional partners. The reopening, scheduled for February 2026, will be marked by an exceptional exhibition dedicated to Kandinsky, in partnership with the Centre Pompidou. From February 2026, open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Closed on Mondays, January 1, May 1, and December 25. Metro line 1, stop: Pont de Bois metro station + Liane bus 6 or 32, LaM stop. Metro line 2, stop: Fort de Mons metro station + Liane bus 6 or 32, LaM stop.
